Our Story,
Providing quality salves, year after year...
Sierra Sage is one of the oldest herbal salve companies in America, founded in 1971. Throughout its existence, Sierra Sage has been highly regarded and respected by the herbalist community and its customers. It was owned for 10 years by Simpler's Botanical Company, James Green, author of The Herbal Medicine Makers Handbook. In the 90's, herbalist, mid-wife and farmer Nan Kohler and daughter Amber Rae, bought the business.
Having lived and worked with Nan and Amber on the family farm for 5 years, Jen Scott purchased Sierra Sage in 2007 and is the current owner/operator. Since taking over Sierra Sage she has revitalized the business by creating new updated salve recipes and labels for the original three salves. She is an herbalist, gardner, and a naturalist teacher. Jen is a certified Doula (birth attendant) and a certified professional Midwife. In addition, she studied and graduated from the Blue Otter School of Herbal Studies and attended the Herb Pharm Internship program in Williams, Oregon. Jen has been studying and growing herbs for over 10 years.
Jen is selling Sierra Sage at farmers markets, herb fairs, boutiques, health food stores, and online.
She is currently growing and making the salves locally in Boise, Idaho.
